Methodology & trust
A market reference you can interrogate
Ownsera produces an illustrative market reference: a dated range, labelled by the strength of the evidence behind it and traceable to the transactions that produced it. Market intelligence, not an appraisal.
Illustrative Market Reference
EV / EBITDA range tracked quarter by quarter, with each point using only the deals public at that date.
Illustrative figures for a fictional business. Where the evidence at a given date does not support a defensible range, Ownsera shows a gap and says why — it does not fill it in.
Evidence status
Every range says how strong its evidence is
Observed
Supported directly by validated transactions that are sufficiently comparable to your business. You can see how many deals sit behind the range and how relevant each one is.
Modeled — size-adjusted
Modeled Market Reference — This range incorporates a size adjustment derived from broader-market transaction evidence. It is not based solely on directly observed transactions of businesses of this size and should not be interpreted as a formal valuation or appraisal.
Insufficient data
Insufficient data — there is not enough defensible transaction evidence at this date to calculate a range. Nothing is estimated in its place.
Size adjustments are derived from transaction evidence, industry and size aware where that evidence supports it. Ownsera applies no blanket discount. Outside benchmarks serve as reasonableness checks only — never as inputs to your figures.
Every figure keeps the sentence it came from
A filing, the press release attached to it, and the individual facts read out of both.

Target EBITDA · undisclosed
No EBITDA figure is stated for the target. Nothing is estimated in its place.
Illustrative record shown in the shape Ownsera stores. Figures that were never disclosed stay undisclosed, and a deal missing what it needs is held out of the comparison set rather than completed by assumption.

Not stated in any source
Illustrative deal, not a real transaction. Undisclosed and unstated fields are recorded as such; only deals that pass validation enter a market reference.
Principles
How we keep it honest
Nothing is invented
Most private deals are never disclosed, and many public ones disclose a price but not the earnings behind it. An undisclosed figure stays undisclosed. It is never estimated to complete a calculation.
Raw evidence sits apart from conclusions
Every fact is stored with its document, publisher, publication date and the exact sentence supporting it. Conclusions are derived from that record and always trace back to it.
Conflicting reports are kept, not overwritten
When two sources disagree on the same fact, both are retained and the disagreement flagged. Agreement across independent sources raises confidence; nothing is silently replaced.
Questionable deals are held out
Every deal is validated on value type, plausibility of implied multiples and clarity of parties and periods. Anything that fails is excluded from the comparison set until a person reviews the source documents and confirms it.
History has no hindsight
A point dated two years ago uses only the transactions public at that date. Later disclosures and restatements never travel backwards, and a modeled figure can never be re-presented as observed.
Your data is yours
Your financials are private to your account, never pooled into anyone else's figures, and exportable or deletable at any time. Nothing reaches a professional without your explicit consent.
Why a deal counted — factor by factor
Each comparable transaction carries a relevance score from 0 to 100, broken out rather than asserted.

Important context
What Ownsera is not
- Private companies do not have a continuously observable market price. Nothing here is a quote or an offer.
- Transaction comparables are imperfect. Deal terms, disclosure quality and business specifics vary, and most private transactions are never disclosed at all.
- Ownsera does not provide valuations, appraisals, fairness opinions, investment advice, tax advice or legal advice, and nothing here is an offer or solicitation.
- Ownsera is not acting as a broker or adviser. Nothing is shared with any professional without your explicit consent.
